Going Home – a Procession, Sat 17 March 2012, 3.30PM

Going Home
17th March, 3.30PM

Going Home is a procession/walk with storyteller Vanessa Woolf, and singer/songwriter Nigel of Bermondsey organised in collaboration with Collecting Home and Studio at the Elephant.

Vanessa will be telling a new version of The Odyssey, as we walk under, over and beyond Elephant & Castle roundabout, finishing up at the Cuming Museum.
The event is inspired by Eva Sajovic and Sarah Butler’s residency at the Cuming Museum and the theme is ‘Going Home’.
We invite you to bring along objects that represent your longings, your dreams and your fears, to add to the Shrine on the journey from the commercial land to the cultural one, via spaces in between. (You will be able to take your objects away at the end of the procession, but please don’t bring anything too valuable)
Meeting point: outside Castle Brasserie and Los Colorados Tienda Latina, 17 March, 3.30PM.

Animated houses

As part of half term activities we planned for Thursday, 16 Feb we worked with children between 5 and 9 years old. The children were given house templates (designed by Esther Yarnold at Interim) that they decorated with objects that represent home for them and then folded and animated under the camera. Result: fun (&) animations.

Celebration night – 16 February 2012, 5-7pm

To celebrate the project, reflect on the work done and conclude the conversations we organised an evening of conversations happening alongised the display of all of the work produced; including the Boutcher school, Crampton school, Evelina Hospital school, all the objects kindly donated and more.
Barby Asante led a discussion on the theme of the Socially engaged participatory practices and Shane Waltener was responding to the work(s) by making a garland while talking and inviting visitors to participate in talking while making.\

Portrait postcards

Tuesday, 4 February – we worked with a group of 10 children to create a series of self portrait postcards;
the children were invited to think of what home represents for them and to plan how they would be photographed to depict that. Words like fun, relaxed and cosy were part of the vocabulary. A range of dressing up clothes was at hand to help create the desired funny characters. Photographs were immediately printed as stickers and children assembled them with their texts into beautiful postcards.
